About the JEE exam

Joint Entrance Examination (Main & Advanced) is one of the better-known exams in India. It is administered by National Testing Agency (JEE Main) and a rotating IIT (JEE Advanced) and attracts a large number of candidates each cycle. The exam is held jEE Main is held in two sessions every year; JEE Advanced is held once a year.

Format of the real exam: Computer-based test (CBT). Practising in the same style is the quickest way to remove surprises on exam day, which is exactly why JEE mock tests matter.

JEE eligibility

Class 12 (or appearing) with Physics, Mathematics and one more subject. JEE Advanced is open only to the top rank holders of JEE Main, within the attempt limits set by the IITs.

Eligibility rules, age limits and relaxations can change between cycles, so always confirm the details in the latest official notification from National Testing Agency (JEE Main) and a rotating IIT (JEE Advanced) before you apply.

JEE exam pattern and marking scheme

JEE Main Paper 1 has Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, with 20 multiple-choice and 5 numerical-value questions per subject, of which 5 numericals must be attempted. Correct MCQs earn 4 marks and wrong ones cost 1 mark, and numericals carry no negative marking in the current pattern.

  • Subjects and sections: Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
  • Mode of the real exam: Computer-based test (CBT).
  • Frequency: JEE Main is held in two sessions every year; JEE Advanced is held once a year.

JEE syllabus: what to study

The JEE syllabus is organised around 3 main areas. Plan your preparation so that every area gets a revision cycle before your first full-length mock test.

  • Physics: revise concepts, practise topic-wise questions, then test yourself under timed conditions.
  • Chemistry: revise concepts, practise topic-wise questions, then test yourself under timed conditions.
  • Mathematics: revise concepts, practise topic-wise questions, then test yourself under timed conditions.

How to prepare for JEE

A good JEE plan combines concept study, topic-wise practice and regular full-length mock tests. Use the checklist below as a starting point.

  • Revise NCERT Chemistry thoroughly, because it is the fastest scoring subject in the paper.
  • Practise numerical-value questions separately, since there are no options to eliminate.
  • After every mock, classify your mistakes as concept, calculation or time pressure, and fix one category at a time.
  • Analyse every mock test: separate errors into concept gaps, calculation slips and time pressure, and fix one group at a time.
  • Keep a short error notebook and revise it weekly, since repeated mistakes cost more marks than new ones.

Why practise JEE mock tests online

Reading and notes build knowledge, but only timed practice builds exam performance. A JEE mock test trains time management, question selection and stress control. Mock Archive gives you instant scoring, subject-wise accuracy, time spent per question and a full answer review the moment you submit.

  • Real CBT interface: question palette, section timers and review marking.
  • Instant result with accuracy, attempts and a question-by-question review.
  • Works on mobile, tablet and desktop, and can be installed like an app.
  • Free forever: no login, no signup and no payment.

Q3 What is the JEE exam pattern?

JEE Main Paper 1 has Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, with 20 multiple-choice and 5 numerical-value questions per subject, of which 5 numericals must be attempted. Correct MCQs earn 4 marks and wrong ones cost 1 mark, and numericals carry no negative marking in the current pattern.

Q4 Which subjects are covered in JEE?

JEE covers Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

Q5 How often is JEE conducted?

JEE Main is held in two sessions every year; JEE Advanced is held once a year. Check the official website of National Testing Agency (JEE Main) and a rotating IIT (JEE Advanced) for the exact schedule of the current cycle.

Q6 Are JEE mock tests on Mock Archive free?

Yes. Every mock test on Mock Archive is free, needs no login or signup, and runs completely in your browser so your answers are never sent to a server.

Q7 How should I prepare for JEE with mock tests?

Finish one pass of the syllabus first, then take a full-length timed JEE mock test every week, reviewing each result for concept gaps, calculation errors and time management. In the final weeks, take mock tests more often and revise only your error notes.

Q8 Is the Mock Archive interface similar to the real JEE exam?

Mock Archive follows the conventions of real computer-based exams: a numbered question palette with colour-coded status, Save & Next, Mark for Review, a countdown timer and an instruction screen. Exact screens can differ slightly between exams, so also read the official mock or tutorial provided by National Testing Agency (JEE Main) and a rotating IIT (JEE Advanced).
